Question: What makes The Nightmare different?
Answer: He is required to use his power to interact with survivors.
This is the oversight. The killer power requirement. He can't just play vanilla and cut people.
Well,
I propose a reworking. Completely.
- Visuals.
No more dream state. The Nightmare is granted a full time dream, and it will be the trial we know, with the same visuals as the survivors have. It will view like every other killer, with a twist!
The Nightmare can see auras of windows, pallets, and lockers inside 12 meters, but outside 4 meters, while in a chase.
We will come back to that.
- Attacking.
The Nightmare should be able to walk around and bash faces like all killers. Of course the Nurse takes ages to catch someone without her power, but that is not equivalent to being unable to grab someone off a generator from the start. Freddy needs his grab points too. Myers is still king of these.
Let Freddy hit people! If he finds someone immediately, he should be able to start hitting them. Currently, he has to sing them the song of his people first. To hell with that. Although it is kind of cool.
- Dream Demon.
Without a dream state, he needs something to do with his left hand, if you know what I mean.
I propose : give The Nightmare a Dream power meter, which slowly fills over time, and is used to do things that will benefit his tracking and chasing.
Dream Demon. The Nightmare thrives on fear, hiding and waiting, then attacking unannounced. Is he there? Is he gone? No. He is the master of this Nightmare.
Here we go.
When not in a chase, The Nightmare can become invisible for a short time, which drains his powers the longer it is held. Hold the M2 button to become invisible after a short time. The invisibility takes 3 seconds to fully take effect, and The Nightmare will be visible intermittently, flashing in and out of sight, while the terror radius is reduced gradually over the duration. Once invisible, The Nightmare moves slightly slower, has 0 terror radius, and can not attack.
Release the M2 button to instantly become visible. JUMP SCARE!
So far, not too different from now. But...
While in a chase, The Nightmare can instantly teleport to windows, or downed pallets, and automatically vault them towards a survivor, like a survivor, at full speed. After which, he can attack or chase according to the situation. He can also teleport into a locker, and burst out quickly. The Nightmare will laugh loudly after a successful teleport attack.
Teleport considerably drains Dream powers when used, and can only be used on vaults and lockers in a 12 meter radius (outside 4m), in a chase.
It would operate like the ultra rare Hag trap add on. Look at it, and hit space. VAULT SCARE!!! HAHAHAH!!!
Max teleports would have to be balanced in some way, but I think around 2-3with a full meter is fair. More would be so fun.
Add ons would be fun to brainstorm.
Maybe ultra rare: "Increased terror radius and lunge, decreased speed, and unlimited teleportation with unlimited range!"
- Conclusion.
Make him a good vanilla killer first, then make his power fun, skillful, and allow him to use all the killer perks properly.
The amount of fun you can have with the current Nightmare is very low. This version has potential to be scary, and hilarious when done right, or even more funny when juked well.
Tinkerer will help a potential add on charge the power meter faster, and distressing can now be used in new cool ways.
I hope my idea is written out as well as I have thought it out, and I thank any readers for giving me this time.
Failing skill checks should not be a thing.
Thank you.
